St Bees is just south of St Bees Head on the coast of Cumbria about four miles south of Whitehaven and an an important seabird reserve and heritage site. With its sandy beach and being close to the Lake District it is a popular holiday destination and excellent walking counry with the Wainwright Coast to Coast starting in the village. A Norman priory from the 12th century is thought to be where St Bega came having been shipwrecked in the ninth century. St Bees school was founded in the 16th century and sent many a scholar to university.
