The beginning of Woodlands Care Home was an old vicarage set in three-quarters of an acre of gardens on level ground, near shops and on a bus route. This was deemed suitable accommodation for staff flats and an office, and for the communal kitchen, dining room and lounge – but not for residents’ flats. MHA therefore constructed an adjoining block of 26 flats built on four levels – 22 of them for single occupancy, and four for couples. Since its opening in 1983 Woodlands has undergone significant refurbishment, including new kitchens in every flat.
In 2009 Woodlands was developed further to provide 29 self-contained apartments for sale with 24-hour care.
