Heckington was mentioned in Domesday as Echintune and had a church, three fisheries and a mill and belonged to the Bishop of Lincoln. It is one of the largest villages in Lincolnshire with a fine medieval church and beautiful stained glass windows. It also has a Grade I listed working tower mill close to the village station on the Grantham to Skegness line. There are a number of shops, pubs and restaurants and an active local community.
