Arundel is an historic market town built on a small hill above the River Arun and is mentioned in Domesday as having a fishery, castle and mill. Today the twin edifices of the castle and cathedral dominate the town with the castle walls abutting the high street. Originally constructed by Earl Roger of Shrewsbury the castle was substantially rebuilt CA Buckler between 1890 and 1903 is one of the seats of the Duke of Norfolk. The cathedral-like church is a prominent building and is the Roman Catholic Church of St Philip Neri.
