Corfe Castle is situated on the Isle of Purbeck peninsula in a commanding position and dates from the 11th century. It is now a Grade I listed building. It was famous for the murder of King Edward which precipitated the disastrous reign of Ethelred the Unready in the 10th century. The village has a number of shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes and is a popular tourist destination.
