Oadby was known as Oldebi in Domesday and probably derived its name from 'farmstead" or village of a man called Authi'. It is a small town to the southeast of Leicester and about ten miles to the north-west of Market Harborough. It was first settled by the Angles in the 6th century and has a pagan Anglo-Saxon cemetery and later became a significant Danish settlement.
