Thrapston lies about eight miles east of Kettering and was mentioned in Domesday as Trapestone and had a mill. It is a small market town close to the River Nene and where members of the Washington family came from. A tablet in the church depicts the arms from which the Stars and Stripes were derived. The town's market charter was granted in the early 13th century and is celebrated every year.
