The famous poet, John Clare, spent the last years of his life at St Andrews Asylum. The town centre has some attractive buildings largely built after a major fire in the 17th century.

The M1 skirts Northampton to the south and west with Junctions 16 and 15 about four miles away. The M40 at J10 is about 25 miles. Milton Keynes is about 16 miles and Wellingborough eight miles. Fast trains to London (Euston) take less than an hour.
