Teddington is an ancient settlement and in the 10th century was owned by the Abbey of Westminster. It lies to the southwest of London between Twickenham and Hampton Wick on the north bank of the Thames. At the end of the 15th century Hampton Court Gardens were built and later common land was enclosed to form Bushy Park. In the 19th century Teddington Lock Footbridge was built to link Teddington with Ham and the town expanded considerably with the coming of the railways. Today there is a busy high street with inns, restaurants and most high street names.
