Kingston-upon-Hull lies on the north bank of the River Humber about 20 miles upstream from the sea and once the southeastern boundary of the Kingdom of Northumbria. The town received its first charter in the 13th century and the old town still retains its medieval street pattern. Wilberforce House is in the Museum's Quarter on High Street.
