Find retirement developments in some of the finest towns and villages in Kingston-upon-Thames
Kingston-upon-Thames was known as Kingston in Domesday and had a church, five mills and three fisheries. It was the oldest royal borough in England and was once a Saxon capital and next to the present All Saints Church is the site of the original Saxon church. In the Middle Ages it was an important crossing point on the Thames and a bridge is recorded here in the 13th century. Cardinal Wolsey also built an aqueduct under the river to take water to Hampton Court.
