Byfleet : Byfleet is well situated just within the M25 motorway and lies bewteen the Rivers Mole and Wey about two miles south of Weybridge. Mentioned in Domesday as Biflet it was held by Chertsey Abbey and had a mill, a church, some fisheries, a meadow and woodland. Today there is a good range of shops and amenities and a railway station known as the Byfleet New Haw. The church is partly fourteenth century and George Smith, the founder of the National Biography, is buried there. The manor house dates from the late 17th century.
