Mandeville Court: Mandville Court was built by Wimpey Homes and completed in 1986. It consists of seventy-seven flats off Union Street close to the centre of Maidstone. There is limited parking to the front of the development. Facilities: These include a resident manager and emergency alarm system, communal lounge, guest facilities, laundry and gardens. It is a short distance to the shops. Maidstone: Maidstone has long been an important administrative centre and was mentioned in the Domesday Book as Meddstane belonging to the Archbishop of Canterbury. Its name probably derives from 'stone of the maidens'. Today it is still a thriving centre on the River Medway and remains the chief market place for the agricultural produce of the area. The Archbishops stables, near the former country palace of the archbishops of Canterbury, is now the Tyrwhitt Drake museum of horse-drawn carriages. Nearby is Allington House, home of the poet Sir Thams Wyatt.
