South Green Lane consists of four two-bedroom bungalows built in 2020.

Facilities include non-resident management and emergency alarm service.

Ashington is about three miles from the coast at Newbiggin-by-Sea just north of the River Wansbeck and for many years was a small farming community. Then in the 19th century the village developed into a major coal-mining centre only later to decline in the 20th century and the last of the pits closed in the early 21st century. The town expanded considerably during this period and at the moment there are plans to restore the old railway line. The nearest  mainline station is now Pegswood on the East Coast Main Line. There are some good walks by the River Wansbeck to Bothal and the Northumberaland National Park is nearby with some of the cleanest rivers in the country.
