Homebank House is situated off Bidston Road in Oxton and to the southwest of Birkenhead. The development consists of 61 bungalows and flats with communal facilities completed in 1985.

Birkenhead is situated on the Wirral and remained a farming community until the early 19th century when the introduction of the Liverpool ferry opened up the area to settlement. The original village was centred around the old Benedictine Abbey and the town grew slowly around the the Priory eventually expanding rapidly with the development of the shipyards and docks. The many fine 19th century buildings testify to the towns' prosperity and the town hall is a fine example. The Williamson Art Gallery and Museum has extensive collections of English Watercolours and ceramics.

Birkenhead was an important port and shipbuilding centre on the River Mersey and the first iron vessel was built here in the early 19th century. Some of Britain's biggest ships were to be built in the docks including the Ark Royal and the Prince of Wales. The Scout movement originated in the town and the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum has an interesting shipping gallery. The town is linked to Liverpool by the Mersey tunnel.
