Aldridge is a small town on the Staffordshire and Warwickshire border about eight miles north of Birmingham. Its name is thought to be derived from 'farm among the alders'. The town is mentioned in Domesday and at the time was larger than its neighbour Walsall. For many years it remained a small farming community and then with the industrial revolution expanded with lime kilns and coal mines and Aldridge clay became renowned for its blue bricks.
