Bridlington lies just south of Flamborough Head on the coast in the northeast of England and was mentioned as Bridlinton in Domesday with its church. The Augustinian Priory was founded in the early 12th century and later demolished by Henry VIII when the last prior was executed. The town developed around the Priory with Bridlington Quay as its fishing port later becoming a fashionable resort following the discovery of a chaleybeate spring. The Bayle Gate is now a museum and Sowerby Hall to the northeast of the town has a museum as well as an Art Gallery.
