Keil Court consists of 37 retirement flats arranged over three floors with communal facilities and completed in 1988. Helensburgh lies opposite Greenock on the north shore of the Firth of Clyde and about 25 miles northwest of Glasgow. The town was founded in the 18th century by Sir Ian Colquhoun of Luss who named it after his wife Helen. He first built spa baths as an attraction and brought people to his new town via a ferry service to Greenock. The town developed further as a resort in the 19th century with tourists arriving by a steamer service from Glasgow. The Clyde Naval Base at Faslane is on the Gare Loch about six miles away.
