King Alfred's Court Yard lies within the shadow of St Cuthbert‘s spectacular church tower just a few yards from the centre of Wells. Wells is a very popular small city which blends its unique historic inheritance with the familiarity of a thriving market town. St Cuthbert was a Saxon Saint and his church - the City Church of Wells and rival to the cathedral, looks over the development. The cathedral itself is beautiful with its magnificent West Front containing the largest gallery of medieval sculpture in the world. King Ina of Wessex who reigned from 688 to 726AD is shown in the West Window. He helped to build the first church of St Andrew in about 705AD.

Wells is situated at the foot of the Mendips and is about 20 miles from both Bristol and Bath. The M5 (Junction 20) is accessible - about 18 miles. The nearby towns of Glastonbury and Shepton Mallet are both about six miles away. There are mainline stations at Bath and Castle Cary with access to London (Paddington) and a national bus service operates from Wells itself. Bristol International Airport, on the south side of Bristol, is within easy driving distance.
