Queen Alexandras Court was founded in 1899 by Sir James Gildea, also founder of what is now SSAFA Forces Help, and its main purpose is to provide accommodation for ladies in reduced circumstances. Candidates must have a service connection and weight is given to the strength of that connection. Successful applicants are not normally allowed to live at Queen Alexandra‘s Court unless they have achieved the age of 60

There are 76 unfurnished self contained flats at Queen Alexandras Court set in three mansion style buildings on three sides of a landscaped garden. The properties are set behind an attractive raised terrace wall and the grounds amount to some four acres in total and are beautifully maintained. There is also a common room and four guest rooms which residents are able to use for visitors.
