Painswick: Painswick is mentioned in Domesday as having four mills and is set high above the valley in the cotswold hills north of Stroud. The town was once an important wool centre and the many fine Geoginan houses testify to its eighteenth century prosperity. St Mary's churchyard is famous for its many yew trees and the 'clipping ceremony' which takes place in the autumn.

There are many interesting places to visit nearby including the Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust about five miles north of Berkeley Castle where Edward II was murdered. Also the next door village of Sheepscombe with its memorable cricket pitch.

Directions: From the A417 take the B4070 at Birdlip and after about a mile turn right signposted Painswick. At the Junction with the A46 turn left and in about two miles you will enter Painswick. In the centre of the village turn right into the Gloucester Road (B4073) and proceed up the hill and Hyett Orchard is signposted to the left.

Hyett Orchard : Hyett Orchard is a retirement development situated to the west of Painswick High Street and consists of seventeen flats and houses completed in 1988. There are good local shops within walking distance. The town is surrounded by beautiful countryside.
