Fleur de Lis consists of retirement properties with communal facilities on the Duchy of Cornwall's Poundbury estate on the western outskirts of Dorchester. The development is close to the entrance to the estate.

Facilities include a house manager and 24 hour emergency Careline system, residents' lounge, lift, guest suite and residents' car park.

Poundbury is a  new mixed housing development to the west of Dorchester begun in the 1990's and sponsored by the Prince of Wales with a proposed completion date of 2025 when it will have over 2000 houses. The design concept is to focus on spaces and their relationships and not to allow the car to dominate the views so that whilst commercial buildings are mixed with residential areas a walkable community is created with shops and leisure facilities nearby.

Dorchester is adjacent to Poundbury and is the County town of Dorset and was mentioned in the Domesday Book. It was once the Roman town of Durnovaria. Today it has a modern shopping centre stretching along the high street with many elegant Portland Stone buildings including among them Boots, Marks and Spencer, WH Smith and other well known high street names.
