Lymington : Lymington is an old market town and lies about 14 miles on the coast south-west of Southampton on the River Lymington. Its name probably derives from 'farmstead on the River Limen' and for many years its main source of income were the salt pans on the grass covered mud flats along the coast. Today the estuary is full of yachts and small boats.

The town has a long and attractive high street leading down to the harbour with Georgian houses and shops reflecting the prosperity of this part of Hampshire in the 18th century. Pier Station is the main terminal for the Isle of Wight car and passenger ferries.
