St James' Park: St James' Park is an attractive retirement development of cottages and apartments close to the centre of Bradpole. The properties are built of local Purbeck stone together with red brick and Welsh roofing slates. The grounds of St James' Park are entered through stone pillars surmounted by ornamental lions. A short drive leads past trees and shubs and within the grounds are a copper beech, poplar, lime, flowering cherry and horse chestnut. Garaging is tucked away in the corners so as not to dominate the garden views. The original Victorian House is now a nursing home.?

Facilities include an emergency alarm system and attractive grounds well maintained set just below the nursing home.

Bridport probably derived its name from 'port or market town belonging to Bredy' which is a village seven miles to the east. It is an attractive market town close to the coast in Dorset and once the centre of British rope and net-making. The town's wide pavements were once 'ropewalks' where the new ropes were laid out for twisting and drying. Parliamentary soldiers almost captured Charles II here in 1651. There are a good range of shops, restaurants and antique shops with a weekly market on Wednesdays.

?Bradpole is a small village with local shop, post office and church. At the time of Domesday it was known as Bratepolle and belonged to the King whilst Bridport, along with about a third of Dorset, belonged to the church. There is a bus service into nearby Bridport and there are excellent walks in the surrounding countryside.
