The Wealden woods although much reduced still provide excellent walking country. The town has grown considerably in the twentieth century with good north-south communications and a mainline railway station. Today there are several supermarkets and a good range of high street names and shops. Nearby is the famous woodland garden created by the 1st Lord Sheffield in the eighteenth century.
