Botley: Botley is an ancient settlement on the River Hamble and mentioned in Domesday as having two mills. It is about six miles east of Southampton and has an attractive high street with a good range of shops including pubs, restaurants, hotels and cafes, chemist, florists and wine merchants. There is a memorial to William Cobbett who lived at Botley in the early nineteenth century. The land along the river at Curdridge is National Trust property.
