Neston : Neston in South Wirral. Neston was an old country town and seems to have been quite prosperous in the eleventh century. It remained so up until the eighteenth century when the River Dee finally silted up the coastline; but not before Emma Hamilton had bathed there to seek a cure for a skin complaint. In its heyday Neston was the principal port for sailing to Ireland and John Wesley is reputed to have made the crossing more than forty times. Ness Gardens are just south of Neston.
