Sycamore Court : Sycamore Court is a development of retirement apartments designed for people over 60 years of age. Its purpose is to help Owners retain their independence for as long as possible whilst relieving them of the need to maintain a house and garden. The Court, which was built in 1992, surrounds a pleasant landscaped courtyard with car parking for Owners, Staff and visitors. Sycamore Court has 35 totally self-contained apartments arranged on three floors. These comfortable apartments are easily accessible by two lifts as well as stairs and in every room there is an alarm call system. In addition, there are communal facilities on the ground floor; a dining room, a very attractive lounge and a hobbies room. There is also a well-equipped guest suite for Owners' visitors to the Court. The Court provides a level of staffing and services that are much greater than found in many other retirement developments. There is a Manager, who works partly at the Court and partly from home, to ensure the smooth administration of the Court. There is also a team of House Managers, of whom one is in the Court twenty-four hours a day. they supervise the work of a team of Housekeeping Assistants who keep the Court and apartments in good order. The Court has an attractive dining room which offers a very good, reasonably priced, three course lunch every day of the year for those who wish to have it. Meals can also be taken to apartments for Owners who are unwell. A handyman comes in once a week to undertake repairs and maintenance both in the Court and in the apartments. Apartments are cleaned weekly, there is a laundry and ironing service if required and, by arrangement, staff will undertake additional domestic services such as shopping. There is also a prescription collection and delivery service and a visiting chiropodist, hairdresser, fishmonger and mobile library. At Sycamore Court residents buy their apartments which protects their capital, and pay a monthly Service Charge which covers, inter alia, staff wages, cleaning of the apartments and communal area and maintenance of the buildings and equipment etc. Sycamore Court is self-managed by a Board of Directors, who live in apartments in the Court, and in 2005 the Court bought its freehold which is now shared between all Owners. The Court is, as a result, truly autonomous and, justifiably, prides itself on its 'extended family' ethos.
