Caversham: Caversham lies less than a mile to the north west of Reading just over the River Thames with good local shopping and easy access to Wallingford and Henley-on-Thames. Reading itself is an ancient town and a Cluniac abbey was founded here in 1121 and is where Henry 1 is buried.

Today Reading is a modern university town and regional centre with extensive shopping facilities including the Oracle which includes a cinema village with restaurants and cafes and most high street names. Broad Street has John Lewis amongst other well-known stores.

There are numerous sport and leisure facilities, theatres and museums including Blakes Lock Museum, The Museum of English Life at the University and the Museum of Reading with its fine Roman displays depicting life in the first centuries AD. The museum also has the only full length replica of the Bayeux Tapestry. Oscar Wilde wrote his famous 'Ballad of Reading Gaol' during his enforced stay in the town.
