Turney's Orchard is situated off Chorleywood Bottom within walking distance of shops and consists of 29 flats completed in 1989. Facilities include a resident manager and alarm service and garden. Chorleywood has a long history and was originally just Chorley with the 'wood' being added in the early sixteenth century. Its name is believed to have derived from 'clearing of the freemen or peasants' and in the eleventh century the town of Chorley was given by Edward the Confessor to the Monastery of St Albans and thereafter to to the Bishopric of London. Today the town has some good shops, restaurants and inns and easy access to London with the Metropolitan Line. Chorleywood Common is a County Heritage Site.
