Leamington Spa was mentioned as Lamistone in Domesday with two mills and its name derives from 'farmstead on the River Leam'. Its iron and salt springs came to notice in the eighteenth century and gradually the town became a fashionable Regency Spa with Queen Victoria bestowing 'Royal' in the 1840s. Today it is has a prosperous and vibrant centre with excellent shopping and cultural facilities and attractive parks and gardens.
