Aldershot has long been the country's chief army base. Today it has every modern convenience and there are many interesting places to visit including Wellington's Stratfield Saye House and several museums and memorials. On a Thursday there is a large covered market in the High Street. The Basingstoke Canal runs to the north of the town.
