Shephard Mead is situated off the Gloucester Road to the south of the town. It was built by Orbit Housing Developments in 1988 and consists of 63 bungalows and flats some with magnificent views towards the abbey.

Tewkesbury is an ancient market town at the confluence of the River Severn and the Avon. At the time of Domseday it was known as Tedechesberie and had two mills, a salt-house and a fishery market. The High Street has some very fine timbered old houses and the magnificent abbey is one of England's most 'splendid churches'. The town was once an inland port centred on the waterfront and has a thirteenth century bridge. To the southwest of the town is 'Bloody Meadow' - the scene of one of England's most famous battles in which Edward IV seized the throne.
