Bodmin lies about 20 miles south-west of Launceston on the steep south-western edge of Bodmin Moor. In Domesday it was known as Bodmine suggesting it was originally a religious settlement as the name means 'The Home of Monks'. St Petroc's church is 15th century and the largest in Cornwall and nearby is a holy well thought to help eye troubles. For a time Bodmin was the county town of Cornwall.
