Hinckley is in south-west Leicestershire and was mentioned as Hinchelie in Domesday and was an old settlement belonging to the King. Castle Hill is on the site of Roman earthworks. The town received its first charter in the 14th century and suffered during the Civil War. It was an important centre in the hosiery industry and had the first stocking frame installation in the 17th century.
