Cirencester is an historic market town in the North Cotswolds with one of the largest churches in the county. The imposing Church of St John the Baptist in the market square is known as the 'Cathedral of the Cotswolds'. The town lies on the River Churn about 15 miles southeast of Gloucester not far from the scource of the Thames. In the middle ages the town became very prosperous with the wool trade and its success at this time has left many beautiful 17th and 18th century buildings.
Today Cirencester still retains its status as the leading market town in the Cotswolds with an abundance of good shops and now a Waitrose and a Tesco supermarket. Nearby are excellent golf courses, leisure centres and parkland and numerous places to visit including Colesbourne Park with its famous collection of snowdrops.
