Hebden Bridge is situated in the Calder Valley about four miles west of Halifax. It is thought its name derives from the Anglo-Saxon 'Heopa Denu' meaning Brambe Valley. Originally a crossing point on the River Hebden the town later developed in the 19th century with the its mills for the woollen industry and then in the late 20th century a popular commuter town for the larger cities nearby.
