Faversham is a very attractive small town with good local shopping and a variety of clubs and activities. The town has a mainline railway station and there are regular bus services to Canterbury. It was once a busy port with ancient buildings including Arden House where Thomas Arden was murdered in the famous Elizabethan play. The town has one of the largest churches in Kent set below the old brewery above the creek. It testifies to the towns prosperity in the middle ages when it was partially rebuilt in the 14th century after the earlier church was burnt by the townspeople. The town later became an important centre for the gunpowder industry.
