Nantwich lies in the Cheshire Plain on the banks of the River Weaver and was recorded in Domesday as having eight salt houses and by the 16th century this had risen to over 200. Today Nantwich is a popular residential town with good communications. The Shropshire Union Canal runs through the town.

Nantwich is situated about four miles southwest of Crewe and about ten miles northeast of Whitchurch. The M6 at Junction 16 is about eight miles and fast trains to London (Euston) take just under two hours.
