Set in 18 acres of grounds, Great Maytham Hall has some very fine features including a classic Lutyens&lsquo arched Clock House that frames the entrance to the imposing driveway, and a great drawing room (the Churchill Room). All principal rooms and most apartments are on the garden front, facing south and with attractive views over open countryside.

Although mentioned as an estate in Domesday the first Maytham Hall was not built until 1721. Great Maytham Hall as we know it today was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and built in 1910 for the Rt Hon H.J. Tennant. The estate dates from Saxon times and at least four Norman lords had manors here. The walled garden of the old hall was the inspiration for Frances Hodgson Burnett‘s children‘s classic ‘The Secret Garden‘.

The apartments at Great Maytham Hall are offered on a leasehold basis and prices vary according to the size and location of each apartment. There is a monthly service charge paid by residents to cover the costs of the services provided.

The A28 from Hastings to Canterbury passes through Rolvenden. The larger town of Tenterden is about three miles away with Ashford and its international rail links about twelve miles. Hawkhurst and Cranbrook are both about seven miles and Rye near the south coast nine miles.
