Lechlade-on-Thames is the highest navigable point for boats on the River Thames. The Roman town of Cirencester lies twelve miles to the west. Fairford is about five miles and Faringdon eight miles. Swindon is 11 miles away and offers an excellent inter-city train service to London (Paddington) in less than an hour. Road communications in the area are good with a series of main truck roads connecting at Cirencester.
