The house is set on a ridge above the Thames and about five miles south-east of Marlow. At the southern end of the bridge is the Compleat Angler named after Izaak Walton's famous book on fishing. There are many attractive Georgian houses in the high street and good walks along the riverside below Marlow Lock and in Quarry Wood.

Cliveden is well situated with Marlow about four miles away and Cookham two miles. Beaconsfield is about five miles and Maidenhead four miles. The M40 to the north at Junction 2 is about four miles and the M4 to the south at Junction 7 about five miles. Fast trains to London (Paddington) take less than half an hour.
