Abbey Mill is a Grade II listed building enjoying a glorious position on a gentle bend of the River Avon, within sight of the ancient town bridge and faced by mature willows, beech and plane trees in the town‘s memorial garden on the opposite bank. Taking its name from an abbey once sited nearby, the Mill was built in 1875 to serve the cloth industry and was extensively redeveloped in 1997 by Girlings (Abbey Mill Limited). Today the buildings consist of one and two bedroom flats and cottages with a remote controlled access gate and video entry system.

Communal facilities at Abbey Mill include a residents‘ lounge, quiet room, leisure/hobbies room and a guest room. The development is within easy walking distance of the town centre and the original ‘broad ford‘ across the river. There is a footbridge just below Church Street leading to the gardens opposite. Bradford-on-Avon is an exceptionally well preserved Georgian town on the banks of the River Avon. For years its many charming period buildings concealed an older richer history - the saxon church was only discovered in the nineteenth century. The splendid Tithe Barn at Barton Farm, a granary for Shaftesbury Abbey, was built in 1341. The Kennet and Avon Canal passes immediately to the south of the town.
