Greenock is about 25 miles west of Glasgow and was originally a small fishing village and then grew exporting barrels of salted herring. It later became a major port and shipbuilding centre in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Old West Kirk church is famous for its stained glass by artists such as Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Sir Edward Burne-Jones.
