Find retirement developments in some of the finest towns and villages in Dunfermline
Dunfermline is about 16 miles northwest of Edinburgh on the north bank of the Firth of Forth. In the past Dunfermline was an important ecclesiastical centre and capital of Scotland but today only parts of the nave survive from the medieval church. Many of the monastic buildings were destroyed at the beginning of the 14th century. The town became famous for producing fine damask linen in the 18th century and in the 20th century further growth followed the establishment of Scotland's only Royal Navy dockyard in neighbouring Rosyth.
