Inverurie : Inverurie is a Royal Burgh in the Don Valley about 16 miles northwest of Aberdeen. A church was founded here in the 9th century but it was not until the 16th century that the town received its first charter. The town has witnessed several battles the last being in 1745 during during the Second Jacobite Rebellion.
For much of the middle ages Inverurie remained an agricultural centre for the surrounding area and then expanded in the early 19th century with the development of the canal between Port Elphinstone and Aberdeen Harbour. The town has seen considerable growth recently due to the oil industry.
