Bucklebury was mentioned as Borche in Domesday and belonged to the King with a mill and church. The village lies about five miles from Newbury and is made up of three parts with Chapel Row, the common and the original village on the River Pang. The parish church of Saint Mary the Virgin has a beautiful Norman south doorway and windows by Frank Brangwyn. In the 17th century the common held 20,000 troops on the eve of the second Battle of Newbury.
