Retirement Properties Spotlight in Aberystwyth

Aberystwyth is a famous West Wales town on the Cardigan coast at the mouths of two rivers and so named as the 'mouth of the River Ystwyth'. It dates back to the thirteenth century when Edward I built a castle here later destroyed in the Civil War although there was an ecclesiastical foundation established at Llanbadarn in the sixth century. The harbour was built to help with the export of lead and the town's past posterity can be seen in the many fine houses and period buildings in the town. The National Library of Wales was established here in the early twentieth century and the first college of The University of Wales was opened in 1872.

Today Aberystwyth is a vibrant centre with excellent shops and many restaurants, inns and places of interest to visit. The castle grounds on the seafront are now public gardens and the many beautiful hill top views belie the town's industrial past. The Vale of Rheidol Railway is well known for the new crossing of the River Mynach, the Devils Bridge, set amongst magnificent scenery.
