Winterbourne Earls is the southernmost of the three Winterbournes and was mentioned in Domesday as Wintreburne belonging to Edward of Salisbury and had a mill on the Bourne. Its name derives from the local river Bourne with the 'Earls' being added to denote manorial ownership by the Earls of Salisbury in the later Middle Ages.
Salisbury Cathedral is one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the country in a majestic setting by the River Avon.
