Wye : The historic and attractive village of Wye is set in the beautiful Stour valley beneath the distinctive chalk crown cut into the North Downs to commemorate the coronation of Edward V11. It dates from Roman times and owes its original growth to its location at the first ford of the River Stour for travellers on the old Britsih highway now known as the Pilgrim's Way.
The 13th century saw Wye at the height of its fame as a Royal Manor. To the north of the village is the beautiful Godmersham Park, a regular haunt of Jane Austen, and Loantigh House, the birthplace of Cardinal John Kempe. Nearby is the famous medieval village of Chilham with its castle, whilst to the south east of Wye is the village of Brook, adjoining the chalkland National Nature Reserve.
